Folding Doors in the Sky
What began as a Switchable Smart Film project, quickly evolved into an even bigger one for folding doors at one of the most prestigious hotels in Dubai, St Regis – The Palm. The new Oryx bifolds installed at the popular St Regis hotspot, Aura Skypool, were a perfect replacement for the pre-existing doors which had massive gaps around the edges and poor functionality.
Folding Doors in Every Season
Folding doors serve a purpose in all seasons. When patrons visit for a swim in the sky or the crisp and clear sunset views in the busy winter months, the restaurant slides the folding doors open, creating a tropical indoor outdoor beach club experience. There’s no slowing down during the hot and humid summers because the slimline bi-folding doors keep the heat and moisture firmly shut out with efficient weatherproof seals. As a result, the world’s tallest infinity pool restaurant can maintain a cool, inviting indoor atmosphere without pushing the AC to its limits.
Oryx’s Work at Aura Skypool
Oryx installed 4 sets of Fusion folding doors, enveloping the entire venue so that when the doors are open, there is an uninterrupted 360-degree view of Dubai, the Palm Jumeirah, the Burj Al Arab and the Arabian Gulf. The dark silver metallic doors, which altogether cover a width of 28m, presented an installation challenge for us that we happily overcame because we had to use the tallest crane available to safely lift everything to the 50th floor, at night.
Conclusion
This was a milestone project for Oryx because it was our first project installing 34 folding door panels so far up in the sky. We have embarked on many other iconic projects since then, one of which is for a well-known international restaurant brand opening soon in DIFC. Stay tuned in for the announcement.
